Youth Exchange Auction Appeal

Dear 6110 Rotarians,

Our Rotary Youth Exchange is off to a great year.  We have 12 outbound students who are living and studying abroad in Brazil, Paraguay, Taiwan, France, Slovak Republic, Switzerland, Australia, Italy, Philippines, and Turkey.  We have 11 inbound students from those same countries in our District for the next year.  What a wonderful opportunity for all these exceptional young people and what a great way to build bridges of friendship between our country and theirs.

A big “thank you” goes to all those clubs who are sponsoring both our outbound and inbound students and the gracious individuals who are serving as host homes during this year.  This is a great personal commitment and sacrifice, and you are deeply appreciated!

Now we need help from our 5,000 plus District 6110 Rotarians.  The only funding we receive for Youth Exchange from the District is a $5,000 stipend which provides a part-time salary for our YE Administrative Assistant, Vicki Lombardi.  Vicki has been working with YE for 14 years and is a very vital and knowledgeable resource for our program.  The legalities, paperwork, visas, insurance issues, are extremely complex and it would not be possible to operate without her knowledge, experience, computer expertise, and assistance.  During our peak periods, Vicki devotes many more hours than her salary covers, including weekends and after hours as needed.

However, above this cost, we have expenses for orientation camps, supplies, shipping, attendance at SCRYE board meetings, hosting of our annual SCRYE event here in Tulsa and many other incidental items.  THIS IS WHERE WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Our annual auction at District Conference is our major source of extra revenue for these expenses.  We are issuing a challenge for you to help us make this the most successful auction in YE history.  We need you to donate items to be priced and offered for pre-sale through an on-line auction opening October 12 and on-site at our District Conference at the Embassy Suites in Rogers October 22-25.  PLEASE HELP US CONTINUE THIS ESSENTIAL WORK WITH OUR YOUTH EXCHANGE PROGRAM.  THE FUTURE OF OUR COUNTRY AND OUR WORLD LIES WITH THESE FUTURE LEADERS.!

Some suggestions:  use of your vacation cottage, hotel packages, airline tickets, restaurants, gift certificates from clothing stores, household decorator items, jewelry. If you can imagine it, we can use it!

Please be thinking of how you can help!  Please send description of item, digital photo if possible, value, and your contact info to Vicki Lombardi at vickii@batchmaster.com  Let’s do it for the KIDS and a BETTER TOMORROW FOR OUR WORLD!
